Volunteer Opportunities
- Students may check out up to four books from the collection at any time during the school week or during scheduled classes.
- Books are checked out for two weeks.
- Comic books are checked out for one week.
- Students may check out up to five books in the MackinVia Ebook database.
Overdue Notices
- Students are unable to check out materials from the collection if there is an overdue material on the account.
- Overdue notices are sent weekly to student email accounts.
- Students with overdue materials exceeding 30 days will be individually contacted by a library staff member.
Patron Privacy and Confidentiality
- Our patrons’ (staff and students) records are kept private and confidential.
Lost and Damaged Materials
- Students should report damage to library materials as soon as they notice the damage. This will allow the library staff the opportunity to get the material repaired and prevent the patron from being charged for the damage..
- Patrons will be charged for replacement cost for materials lost or damaged beyond repair. The cost for each lost or damaged item will be the replacement cost of the item. If the material is found and returned, the patron will be refunded the price of the material.
- Charges and payments are processed through Infinite Campus.
Materials Reconsideration Policy
- It is understood that not everyone may agree with the selection of materials in the library collection; therefore, the district provides a clearly articulated process to challenge selected materials. Please refer to the BCSD school board policy for materials reconsideration procedures and documents (605 Instructional Materials).
Using the Library
- The library media center is a place for learning.
- Students are expected to be on task and working quietly.
- Food, candy, and beverages (water is allowed) are not permitted.
- Students who disrupt the working environment of the library will lose the privilege of using the space.
Computer Usage
- Chromebooks
- Please refer to the Bettendorf Middle School Chromebook Policies website for comprehensive information regarding guidelines and care of school-assigned equipment.
- Library desktop computers:
- Students may use these computers for academic purposes during school hours.
- Students using these computers for purposes outside the district technology policy will receive appropriate consequences, such as the loss of computer privileges.
Faculty and Staff
- Teachers may request books on specific topics for use in their classrooms during units of study.
- These books will be pulled by the library staff, checked out to the teacher, and placed on a cart to be picked up in the library by the classroom teacher.
- Teachers should give the teacher-librarian sufficient notice in order to thoughtfully choose appropriate materials for the unit of study.
- Teachers are responsible for all books on the cart and are encouraged to keep the books in their classroom for the duration of the unit of study.
Library Printer
- Please print assignments only if absolutely necessary.
- Whenever possible, please share your work electronically with your teachers.
- If the printer jams or runs out of paper, notify a library staff member.
Book Donations
- All donations are welcome; however, donated items must meet the selection guidelines for the collection set forth by the teacher-librarian.
